Repaired furnace in a clean basement

If your AC is on but your home still feels warm, the system is trying to help, but something is getting in the way. In Longmont and nearby Boulder County homes, this often starts with airflow or maintenance issues.

Start With Airflow

Check the thermostat settings first. Make sure the system is set to Cool and the temperature is below the current room temperature. If the fan is set to On, you may feel air moving even when the compressor is not actively cooling.

Then inspect the air filter. A dirty filter can reduce airflow and make the system struggle to remove heat from the house. If it has been a while since you replaced it, that is an easy place to start.

Also walk through the home and make sure vents are open and not blocked by furniture or drapes. Uneven cooling can happen when airflow is restricted in one part of the house.

Look For Outdoor Issues

Go outside and check the condenser unit. If it is buried in leaves, grass, or dust, the system may not be able to release heat effectively. Clear away debris around the unit and leave plenty of space around it.

If the outdoor unit is running but the air inside still feels warm, there could be a refrigerant issue, a dirty coil, or a failing component that needs service.

Decide On Service

If the AC is still not cooling after the easy checks, it is time to have a technician inspect it. Catching the problem early can help prevent bigger repairs and more uncomfortable indoor temperatures.

Pine Hollow HVAC works with homeowners in Longmont, Niwot, Firestone, and Boulder to diagnose cooling problems and recommend the next step, whether that is maintenance, repair, or a new AC installation.
